Yield Planning
TalkingFields supports you in the cultivation, documentation and planning of your acreage with three innovative products which not only document the development of your crops from space but also provide you with the absolute yield in tons per hectare. These are the TF Yield Map as well as the TF Yield Forecast, which show the actual yield of one vegetation period, as well as the TF Yield Potential Map, which shows the long-term potential yield even with crop types not yet grown on your farm. All three products provide comprehensive yield information for winter wheat, winter barley, rapeseed, sugar beet or maize in t/ha and thus provide a uniform and area-wide overview of all fields as a reference for the optimization of your yields.
The yield of a cultivated crop is the result of the daily biomass development over the entire vegetation period. Therefore, in addition to satellite data, a crop growth model must be used to determine the yield of a crop at a specific site. The crop growth model we use takes into account the hourly weather conditions as well as other influencing factors such as topographical location, soil conditions, etc.

Yield mapping with the TalkingFields Yield Map
The TF Yield Map provides current or retrospective high resolution information on the grain yield at the harvest date. It combines the simulated growth of a crop during a vegetation period with satellite observations of the respective harvest year. The TF Yield Map replaces and supplements existing yield mapping, also retrospectively, and enables a comprehensive yield mapping without the use of GPS-enabled combine harvesters.
The TF Yield Map supports you
- in the comparison of different varieties, management methods and locations
- within one harvest year but also in the comparison of several years.

The quality of the TF Yield Map was validated against yield mapping preformed with combine harvesters as well as against weighted yields. Both the congruence of absolute values and the spatial congruence between TF Yield Map and conventional yield mapping with a combine harvester are high.
TalkingFields Yield Map
The TF Yield Map provides comprehensive yield information and thus complements other mapping methods or enables yield mapping without the use of GPS-enabled combine harvesters.
The TF Yield Map provides a uniform and comprehensive overview via the integration of satellite data and crop growth modeling.
The method has been proven over multiple years and with extensive in-situ measurements for the crop types winter wheat, winter barley, rape, maize and sugar beet.

TalkingFields Yield Forecast as planning guide
The TF Yield Forecast uses the same technology as the TF Yield Map, but provides high resolution yield forecast two to four weeks before the target harvest date. By integrating up-to-date weather forecasts and long-term weather observations into the crop growth model, grain yield can be estimated with sufficient accuracy before the harvest date.
The TF Yield Forecast serves both producers and buyers as decision support for:
- contract planning through knowledge of the expected profit margin and
- the effective planning of machine employment and other resources.
The congruence of the TF Yield Forecast and conventional yield mapping with a combine harvester is high to very high, depending on the quality of the weather forecast.

TalkingFields Yield Forecast
The TF Yield Forecast provides a high resolution yield prediction two to four weeks before the planned harvest date. With integrated weather forecasts and long-term weather monitoring in the crop growth model (PROMET), the crop yield can be estimated with sufficient accuracy before the harvest date.
The method has been proven over multiple years and with extensive in-situ measurements for the crop types winter wheat, winter barley, rape, maize and sugar beet.

Optimizing yield with the TalkingFields Yield Potential Map
The TF Yield Potential Map provides information on the average potential yield under local soil and climate conditions. This means that the yield is calculated using the assumption that nutrients are optimally present and no diseases or pests occur. The TF Yield Potential Map is generated by combining a yield simulation of the last 15 years with the detailed in-field patterns from satellite data of the last 5 to 10 years.
The TF Yield Potential Map allows you the
- optimization of the target yield for fertilization, irrigation and crop protection
- optimization of crop rotation according to economic aspects
- estimation of the medium-term productivity of the farm.
Generally, potential yields cannot be validated as they only exist as a potential. What can be said, though, is that the TF Yield Potential Map has been developed on basis of the successful and very accurate TF Yield Map, and that the results are regularly compared with yield statistics and with numerous results of crop trials in order to guarantee a minimization of uncertainties.

TalkingFields Yield Potential Map
The TF Yield Potential Map shows the average potential yield of a selectable crop in t/ha with knowledge of local climate, soil conditions and topographical situation.
For the TF Yield Potential Map, the potential yield over several years is calculated using a crop growth model (PROMET) resulting the mean value over all years.
Thus, the influence of different weather conditions is minimized, and the calculated value is representative. Via the TF Base Map, the simulated potential yields are then transferred to the detailed site-specific TF Yield Potential Map.
